Study Type Epidemiology
Model Occupational ELF exposure to workers and correlation with neuroblastoma in their children.
Details

Children with neuroblastoma (diagnosed from 1970-1979 through tumor registries in the Greater Philadelphia area) were analyzed using a matched case-control study for correlations with parental occupation. Controls were selected by random digit dialing and matched to cases on race, birth date, and telephone exchange. In contrast to results of a previous study, no significant associations were noted for paternal employment in occupations in electricity, electronics, insulation, utility, or printing. Further, no association was observed for jobs with electromagnetic field exposure. In other studies, parental occupations were analyzed for childhood astrocytoma (n = 163 cases)in children under 15 years of age, diagnosed from 1980-1986. Again, no statistically significant correlations were reported with occupations, although there was a trend for paternal occupation as electrical or electronic repairmen.
