2450 MHz (CW, PW) exposure to isolated rat lens in vitro and analysis of damage |
Details |
|
Rat ocular lenses were exposed to 918 MHz RF (PW- 10 microsec pulse duration, 24 kW peak power at different repetition rates) for 6, 20 and 60 minutes at SARs ranging from 0 750 W/kg. Light and scanning electron microscopy detected damage after 6 minutes at SARs of 20 and 40 W/kg, and after 1 hour at 10 W/kg. Exposure with pulsed RF produced 4.7 times the depth of damage as that caused by CW exposure. The authors propose that the additional damage with PW at the same average power is caused by thermoelastic expansion. |
