60 Hz occupational exposure from electrical equipment and other sources and correlations with brain tumors |
Details |

Patients with glioma (n = 489) or meningioma (n = 197) in 3 hospitals from Phoenix, Boston, and Pittsburgh were evaluated for occupational exposure to ELF fields via job matrix (including 7940 jobs). The authors report an initial correlation between electricians and increased risk of glioma. In a subsequent study, the job matrix was expanded and more detailed job modules were developed from questionnaire data based upon the different types of electrical equipment and distances used during work. In this subsequent study, the authors report no significant correlation between brain tumors and occupational exposure to ELF from electrical equipment. |
