ID Number 2014
Study Type In Vitro
Model 25, 50 Hz (PEMF) exposure to tumor cell lines and yeast (alone or in combination with cytotoxic drugs) and analysis of cell growth, DNA breaks, and apoptosis
Details

MCF-7 breast cancer cells were exposed to 25 Hz pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMF) at 1.5 milliT for 2 h/day, 3 days. Exposures were performed +/- co-exposure with FeCl3 (iron (III) chloride hexahydrate) and/or methotrexate and analyzed for cytotoxicity. The authors report no effects of exposure. Other studies involved co-exposure of PEMF with carriers of 25 or 50 Hz and magnetic field strengths of up to 2.45 mT with cisplatin, mitomycin C, methotrexate, and other cytotoxic agents in human cell lines and yeast. Initial studies did, however, report that 1 and 25 Hz (PEMF) at 1.5 mT peak magnetic field for times between 15 and 360 minutes could decrease growth rate in a human colon adenocarcinoma cell line.
