50 Hz (PEMF) exposure to ovarectomized rats and analysis of bone loss |
Details |
|
Sprague Dawley rats (n = 32) were ovarectomized to induce bone loss and exposed to 50 Hz pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMF) for 6 hrs/day for 12 weeks. The authors report PEMF exposure during the daytime reduced bone loss and deterioration of trabecular bone architecture to a greater extent than rats recieving PEMF exposure during the nighttime. In addition, daytime exposure decreased serum alkaline phosphatase, serum bone Gla protein, and urinary deoxypyridinoline as well as dynamic histomorphometric parameters reflecting trabecular osteoblast and osteoclast activity more than with nighttime exposure |
