50 Hz (ELF) exposure to residents in Japan and correlation with childhood leukemia incidence |
Details |
|
Children with leukemia (n=312; ALL and AML) in Japan were evaluated for correlations between the disease and ELF exposure levels in a population based case control study. Weekly ELF levels were determined in each child's bedroom. The authors report no significant difference between ALL + AML cases with at average ELF levels of 0.4 uT or higher as compared with children having average ELF levels of 0.1 uT or lower (OR = 2.6; 95% CI = 0.76-8.6). However a similar comparison involving only ALL cases was significant (OR=4.7; 95% CI = 1.15-19.0). The authors also state that most leukemia cases in the high exposure category had ELF levels far above 0.4 microT.
