900, 1800 MHz (GSM) exposure to rats and analysis of melatonin |
Details |
|
Wistar rats (n = 72) were exposed to 900 or 1800 MHz (GSM) for 2 hours/day for 2-3 weeks at 100 uW/cm2 (for 900 MHz) or 20uW/cm2 (for 1800 MHz). In initial studies, no significant effect of exposure was observed on daily nocturnal melatonin metabolite levels in the urine. In similar studies using the above exposure protocol, pineal glands were removed following exposure (when N-Acetyltransferease (NAT) activity was expected to be highest). The authors report no effect of exposure on NAT activity, and interpret this as not having any effect on melatonin secretion by the pineal gland at these exposure levels. |
