Model 2450 MHz (PW-300 Hz) exposure to rats and analysis of chromosome aberrations
Details

Mongrel rats (3-5 month old males) were exposed to 2375 MHz (CW) or 2750 MHz (PW – 300 Hz, 2.7 usec pulse duration) RF at 10, 50, or 500 uW/cm2 for 7 hr/day for 30 or 45 days in the far field using an anechoic chamber. Some rats were thyroidectomized before exposure, and all rats were partially hepatectomized 5-6 days after exposure and sacrificed 29-30 hr later for analysis of chromosomal aberrations in liver tissue. The authors report a decrease in chromosome aberrations with RF exposure that was dependent upon an intact thymus, and propose that the exposure stimulates genetic repair as a result of enhanced thyroid hormone production.
