ICR mice (pregnant dams) were exposed to 20 kHz at 6.25 uT for 8 hrs/day, 5 days/week from 2.5 to 15.5 days post coitus and sacrificed on day 18 of gestation. The fetuses examined for mortality, growth retardation, changes in head size and other morphological abnormalities. No statistically significant effects were reported, although a non-significant increase in the number of growth retarded fetuses was observed. In a related study, mice were exposed as above at a field strength of 30 uT and again sacrificed on the 18th day of gestation. The authors report no observable effects on mortality, growth retardation, changes in head size and other morphological abnormalities. In other studies using a similar exposure, some evidence of slightly decreased estrous cycles was observed. |
