Study Type Epidemiology
Model 60 Hz (ELF) exposure to workers and correlation with the incidence of neuroblastoma in thier children
Details

Children with neuroblastoma (n=157, controls=314) were analyzed in a case control study to look for correlations between the disease and paternal occupation. No significant correlation with residence, prenatal care, parental age, rate of illegitimacy, or standard industrial job classification categories were observed. A risk (OR = 2.13) was associated with paternal occupational exposure to electromagnetic fields (electricians, electric and electronics workers, linemen, and utility employees and welders), although the numbers used for these statistics were small and the effect of RF exposure specifically was not clearly discernable.

The numbers used for statistical calculations were very small. For electronics workers, although the odds ratio was 11.75 (p<0.05), there were only 6 cases and 1 control. Statistics cannot be performed with only 6 cases and a single control.
